Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, click the following article do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.
It's still a great deal for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and works while you are at work or in school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure better cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and some extra cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you have a large furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
